GAP Project – Southeastern Anatolia

This page draws on the earlier Pedology Network project archive together with official GAP framing to present the project in a clearer, fuller form.
The Southeastern Anatolia Project (GAP) is a multi-sector, integrated regional development effort approached in the context of sustainable development. Its basic objectives include improving living standards and income levels, reducing regional disparities, and contributing to social stability and economic growth by enhancing productivity and employment opportunities in the rural sector.
The project area covers nine provinces: Adiyaman, Batman, Diyarbakir, Gaziantep, Kilis, Mardin, Siirt, Sanliurfa, and Sirnak, across the Euphrates and Tigris basins and Upper Mesopotamia.
Why It Matters Here
Pedology.net includes the GAP Project because of Prof. Ahmet R. Mermut’s long-standing work in soil science, land use, sustainable agriculture, and international collaboration in arid and semi-arid environments.
